For Parents: How MathComp Works

Everything you need to know about your child's math competition training

The 15-Minute Daily Model

MathComp is designed around a simple principle: consistent, focused practice beats marathon study sessions. Your child will spend just 15 minutes each day working through AMC 8-style problems.

Each day, your child receives 3 "energy" units, with each unit representing one 5-minute lesson. This built-in limit prevents burnout while ensuring daily engagement with the material.

= 15 minutes of daily practice

The 2-Week Improvement Goal

Our target is ambitious but achievable: a 6-8 point improvement on the AMC 8 within just 2 weeks of consistent use. For a student starting at 12-14 points, this means reaching the 90th percentile range (18-22 points).

This improvement comes from three key areas:

  • 1.Pattern Recognition - Learning to quickly identify problem types and apply the right strategies
  • 2.Error Reduction - Eliminating careless mistakes through systematic review
  • 3.Contest Strategy - Knowing when to skip, when to guess, and how to manage time

What Progress Looks Like

You'll see your child's progress in several ways:

Daily Activity

Track whether your child completed their daily lessons. Consistency is the key to improvement.

Streak Counter

See how many consecutive days your child has practiced. Building a streak reinforces the daily habit.

Topic Mastery

View completion percentages across different math topics like Number Theory, Algebra, and Geometry.

Lessons Completed

A simple count of total lessons finished, showing cumulative effort over time.

What We Don't Do

MathComp is intentionally focused. We don't try to be everything:

  • No video lectures - learning happens through practice
  • No full curriculum - we focus on high-ROI competition skills
  • No unlimited practice - energy limits prevent burnout
  • No harsh feedback - mistakes are learning opportunities, not failures

Getting Started

Your child can start immediately with confidence-building lessons. There's no lengthy diagnostic test - we learn about their strengths and areas for growth as they practice.

After the first session, they'll see a personalized learning path guiding them through all the essential AMC 8 topics in the optimal order.
